Gillis van Tilborgh, who may have been taught by David Teniers II., mainly produced genre paintings of dinner parties and rustic taverns with weddings as well as brawls, but also created allegories of the five senses. In 1666 he became castellan and custodian of the collections at Tervuren Castle.
