Ertz writes: “The painting can be said to be in a very good state of preservation, an impression highlighted by the bright paint of the putti standing out against a partly dark background. The putto wreathed in grape leaves appears to include the viewer through its direct gaze. Aside from various christian themes Victor Wolfvoet, a student of Peter Paul Ruben, repeatedly addressed the myth of drunken Bacchus and his accompanying bacchants”.
