The present painting can be dated to the early period of Bartolomeo Cesis’s work and may be compared to the frescoes at the Vezza chapel of the Basilica di Santo Stefano in Bologna (1574). The scene refers to works by Lorenzo Sabatini and Prospero Fontana, among the earliest influences on Cesi.

We are grateful to Daniele Benati for confirming the attribution of this painting based on an inspection of the original.
