Juriaen van Streek’s œuvre was indelibly influenced by the work of Willem Kalf. Streek emulated Kalf’s arrangement of objects in the picture as well as his frequently mentioned diagonal axis. Around 1680, van Streek ceased to paint professionally and instead took up the trade of innkeeper (“herbergiers”).
