In the catalogue text of 1975, the present painting, then attributed to Giacomo Parolini (1663–1733), a painter of Ferrara, is described as follows: “According to information kindly supplied by Professor Günther Heinz, the figure of the reclining youth recurs in the design for a lunette No. GG 6366 in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna that was formerly attributed to Fontebasso.”
