We are grateful to Eduard Safarik and Zdenek Kazlepka for their kind assistance in cataloguing the present painting. The prototype of the present painting, which was long considered a work by Johann Kupezky because of its superior quality, is one of Kupezky’s self-portraits now preserved in the National Gallery in Prague.
