From an Austrian Collection
‘... the sound of surfaces, the hum of the surface and its colours, the pace of signs’ (Wolfgang Rihm) –
‘In 1986 I started isolating elements from my pictures and presenting them as autonomous forms on timber walls in what could be could semi-sculptures. This necessitated a break with my usual work processes. The colour on the wood only played a subordinate role and merely served as an amplifier of the aesthetics inherent to wood, whereas the precision required by the objects liberated my handling of colours in the pictures. I never sought to interpret my works, which frequently is a trap for both the artist and the beholder; here, as we have arrived at the present, description must come to an end.’
