I am a sculptor and not a potter. I have never turned a plate on a lathe or painted a jar. I dislike lace and graduated shading, and I abhor the mysticism of technique. With the prodigious technique of Sèvres and Copenhagen, one satisfies the taste of ladies and collectors. It‘s a kind of ecstasy over fragility and half-tones. I am looking for something else. [...] The critics said ceramic. I called it sculpture.
