The present painting comes with a certificate by Klaus Ertz (2009).
Ertz dates the painting to the late 1640s and describes it as ‘one of the few surviving examples of the collaboration between Jan Brueghel the Younger and Jan van Balen’. The composition is based on a prototype by Jan Brueghel I and Hendrik van Balen, the fathers of the two artists, which is now preserved in the Galleria Doria Pamphilj in Rome.
