Provenance:
Private collection, Belgium

Gillis van Tilborgh, who was probably trained by David Teniers II painted genre scenes featuring elegant companies, peasant scenes, or soldiers at rest as depicted in the present composition. However, Van Tilborgh also painted allegories such as depictions of the Five Senses. In 1666 he was appointed keeper of the collection at the Castle of Tervuren.
