Provenance:
Private property, Germany;
acquired in the Crimea circa 1918 by the grandfather of the current owner.
The work dates to the period in which the young Nowakowski was still a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1892–1900). The motif of a young woman in rural costume, lost in thought, remained a popular one, even in the artist’s later works.
