Austrian school, 1st half 18th century - Property from Aristocratic Estates and Important Provenance

portrait of Johann Weikhart Count Spindler, Freiherr zu Wildenstein (died 1755), oil on canvas, 218 x 136 cm, framed, (GS)

The portrait of the Count is inscribed on the back (incorrectly transcribed from the original canvas): Johann Weikhart/des H. Röm. Reichs Graf/von Gündler Frey. Count Spindler was married to Leopoldine Countess of Kuefstein, who brought into the marriage the Upper Austrian estates of Weidenholz and Waikhartsberg. They were the parents of Johann Aloys Graf von Spindler and the grandparents of Count Leopold, with whose death the Spindler line was extinguished in the late 18th century.
