Austria, 2010, linen, polyester, wood, PU foam, lacquer, signed: Folded Chair 2010 Prototyp/Philipp Aduatz, height 80 cm, width 90 cm, depth 80 cm, height of seat 48 cm. (DRAX)
Prototype from the limited series of five.
Philipp Aduatz’s “Folded Chair” contains and freezes the movement of draped lines. The drapery cascading downwards is artificially stabilised so that the aesthetic of folded linen is permanently on display. The production of the ”Folded Chair” started with the selection of a chair, which was then covered with a foil to protect it against the resin. Next, sheets of linen were used to test the proportions of the folding. Then the linen sheets were soaked with resin and draped over the chair. After the resin had hardened, the chair was removed. Finally, the underside of the chair was reinforced with a load-bearing structure and stiffened with polyurethane foam.
