Mario Giacomelli *
(Senigallia 1925-2000) from the series: Passato, Senegallia 1987-1990, gelatine silver, the reverse side labelled in pencil, 36,6 x 29 cm, retouches, verso 2 edges with remnants of adhesive tape, (EK)
cf. in: Alistair Crawford, Mario Giacomelli, Phaidon Press 2001, p 122/123,
The Passato Series is dedicated to poetry. Giacomelli chooses themes that resemble those of the poets Giacomo Leopardis and Vincenzo Cardarellis.
The images are notes from memory, yellowed pages, visions of a kind of liberty that was, perhaps, never attained. Giacomelli enters into a dialogue with his recollections and together they review his past. He offers us images of the present, which is also a journey into the past, and a magic perspective that transforms reality into something fantastic
(Alstair Crawford, Mario Giacomelli, Phaidon Press Limited, London/New York 2001, p 118).
