Following the early 1970s, the paintings of Giulio Turcato revisit the combinatorial possibilities of the chromatic tones “outside the spectrum”. They are apparitions which overcome the limits of our experience, anticipating futuristic ranges of colour… the colours are thrilling and unreal, conceived as colours beyond our atmosphere as described by astronauts on their return to Earth.
Apparizione (one of the five paintings executed by Turcato expressly for the exhibition at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome), revisits the venture into the domain of imaginary physics.
“I tried to live reality, in the sense of trying to anticipate new possibilities in the life of man. On the other hand, my research has been focused on colour, in the sense that I wanted to find in objects colours that exist beyond the eye; indeed, there was a certain sense of wonder when the first astronauts went into space and found colours that astounded them, blacks, blues, oranges… essentially, unimagined colours. A new colour not just in the physical spectrum, but outside of man himself. His future.”
