For me, disaster functions as a painting motif for greater excitement, for sensory arousal. But by no means do I commend calamity. Bliss begins to set in when I am overpainting my disaster with the doors and windows wide open, taking constant pleasure in the fresh air. To others I recommend at the very least a bedroom where this is possible. (I mean fresh air, not commotion.) Happiness also comes to one who is capable of concentrating intensely, with great power, on a matter. Happiness comes additionally when one doesn’t lose the grand scheme of things and finds pleasure in his tea-break. Because my paintings bring me happiness, I’m sure that they also have this effect on others; at the very least they become aware of my happiness-in-painting.
