“Iwan der Schreckliche”, 1956, offset lithograph, signed by hand TRRR, titled in the illustration, signed, dated, no. 42 from the edition of 200, image size 59 x 41.5 cm, sheet size 62.5 x 46.5 cm, Edition Galerie Peithner-Lichtenfels, Vienna, framed, Breicha L 20, (EH)

“In March 1951 the first (and only) “Hundsgruppe” exhibition on the premises of the Wiener Gesellschaft für Wissenschaft und Kunst. The opening is marked by a real art scandal: Rainer, who called himself “TRRR” at that time, was disappointed by Ernst Fuchs’s opening speech and began spontaneously to insult the audience. Soon after the exhibition, Rainer abandoned the fantastic genre and embarked on his first attempts to paint with his eyes closed (blind painting).”
