Switzerland 1995, manufactured by Atelier Vorsprung, Bern, Switzerland, for Le Corbusier’s priory Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, reduced laminated birch frame, natural and sanded wood, signed “Frank” and numbered, height approx. 92 cm, diameter approx. 52 cm, height of seat approx. 45 cm. (MHA)
These chairs are part of a pilot run of 20 and never went into series production. They were designed upon the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture for the Dominican Order priory of Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, which had been built by Le Corbusier between 1957 and 1960, and were only installed on-site for a brief period of time. Eventually, however, the refectory for which these chairs had been intended was not realised, so that their production remained limited to this pilot series.
