The present painting is based on an engraving by W. J. Delff after a painting by A. P. van de Vennes. The engraving was published by Jan van de Venne, the painter’s brother, in Middelburg in 1621. Further copies, partly varying the composition and differing in size, are in the Hessisches Landesmuseum, Darmstadt, the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and the Siegerland Museum, Siegen. Both the engraving and the paintings dependent on the latter depict living and deceased members of the House of Orange-Nassau.
