“From the outset I didn’t render them with faces because I wanted a kind of flowing movement to run through the picture, and certain things would probably have curbed that movement, such too many details. A face endows a nude with personal features, alters the overall impression of the work, turns it into a kind of nude portrait, and I didn’t like that. So I renounced facial features from the very beginning.”
