Lois Weinberger *
(born Stams, Tyrol, in 1947) Untitled (Broom and Glass), signed at the bottom of the wooden stick Lois Weinberger, various materials, including wood, glass, and lacquer, height 134 cm/30 cm, (K)
Exhibited:
Salzburg / Kunstverein Künstlerhaus 1992 – see the attached poster, which is signed and dated
Provenance:
Private Ownership, Vienna
Lois Weinberger travels light on his journeys, discarding art in his luggage if it threatens to become a burden. Thus freed, he leaves behind the traces of his work as an artist, untroubled by the thought whether they will strike root or not. Renouncing great gestures, Lois Weinberger relieves boundaries from such notions as home, purity, and aesthetics (the general study of beauty). Marked publicity – valid until cancelled. Lois Weinberger reacts indicatively, i.e., he obtains his “working materials” from socio-ecological space and thus permits himself to withdraw from the saturated order of things…
Werner Würtinger, quoted from the preface of the catalogue: Lois Weinberger, Secession, Vienna 1996
