Lot No. 324

A “Thumbnail” couch table,

A “Thumbnail” couch table, - Design

designed by Müller Ulysses Christian in 1989, manufactured by Ulyssimo Möbeldesign, Zurich, Switzerland, chromium and zinc plated steel sheet, plaque on the underside of the table: “ULYSSIMO – THE NEOCLASSICS. This model is part of said collection by ULYSSIMO and has taken on the form of an object from everyday life. And each item represents a superlative in terms of material and production quality. For an everyday object that has become a classic without a lot of fuss having been made about it deserves to be treated respectfully.“ height 34.8 cm, diameter 89.8 cm. (DR)

This table, resembling a gigantic thumbnail, is part of a collection of a small number of items edited by Ulyssimo in which banal everyday objects have been transferred to another level of meaning: the thumbnail as a couch table, the razor blade as a dining table, the paper clip as a chair, the book as a cabinet. At about the same time, Yonel Lebovici pursued a similar approach.

Another example of this table is in the collection of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.
