A waiting desk in the form of a woman,

A waiting desk in the form of a woman, - Design

designed by Marcello Mariotti on the basis of a work by Luca Cambiaso, 1982, manufactured by Vittorio Di Giovanni, 1984, Tanganyika walnut, beech, height 145 cm, width 87 cm, depth 84 cm, height of seat 63 cm. (DR) No. 3 from the limited edition of nine.

The sculptor Marcello Mariotti drew his inspirations for his two pieces of anthropomorphic furniture in the shape of a man and a woman from the Italian painter Luca Cambiaso (1527-1585). Among Cambiaso’s late works there are sketches showing groups of figures reduced to basic geometric forms. They are referred to as drawings in a cubist manner ("la maniera cubica"), since they anticipate formal aspects of Cubism. These two pieces of furniture were a gift to the famous Italian movie actress Rosella Falk for her wedding with an Italian industrialist in 1982. In 1984, a limited series of nine pieces each was produced.
