The Louvre in Paris preserves a comparable sheet (Inv. RF 4561) by Saftleven with an almost identical format, a further study is kept in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig (Inv. Z. 1703). Two drawings by Saftleven with comparable figure studies after paintings by David Teniers were sold with Christie’s London in 2010 (Sale 5472, 9th Dec. 2010, Lot 1122 and 1123). The present drawing may also go back to Teniers, however, the figures cannot be connected with a certain painting by the artist.
