As a young artist, Aureliano Milani trained under Lorenzo Pasinelli and Cesare Gennari. He extensively studied the frescoes by the Carracci family in the Palazzo Magnani and the Palazzo Fava in Bologna. Milani additionally executed numerous copies of paintings and drawings by the Carraccis and imitated the markedly rhythmic articulation of muscles and contours.
