possibly auction of the Cramer Collection, Amsterdam, 13.11.1769, lot 94.
This painting is very likely to be a second version of a composition, executed by van de Velde on panel of almost identical dimensions (held today by the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, inv. no. 52.9.60). See J. Smith, A catalogue raisonné of the works of the most eminent Dutch, Flemish and French painters, London 1828–1842, vol. V, p. 187, no. 41.
