K. Ertz, Pieter Brueghel der Jüngere, Freren 1988/2000, p. 920, no. A 1326 (as circle of Pieter Brueghel II).
Georges Marlier considered the present painting to be an autograph work by Pieter Brueghel II. Klaus Ertz considers it to be a free reinterpretation, by another hand, of a composition by Brueghel that was with Richard Green, London (see K. Ertz, op. cit., p. 917, no. E 1301). In a certificate, Max Josef Friedländer endorsed the painting as an authentic work by Pieter Brueghel II.
