We are grateful to Dr. Bernd Konrad, Radolfzell, for suggesting the attribution of this painting to the “Master of Sigmaringen” (written communication).
Dr. Konrad writes: “This painting is without any doubt a work of the “Master of Sigmaringen”. This master is identified today with the workshop of Hans and Jakob Strüb in Veringenstadt near Sigmaringen. Several paintings coming from that important workshop are known. They belonged to suspended monasteries from the region around Sigmaringen and are now in private collections (Coll. Of the Prince of Fürstenberg, Donaueschingen – since 2004 Coll. Reinhold Würth, Schwäbisch Hall – and the Private Museum of the Princes of Hohenzollern, Sigmaringen). Other works by the Strüb workshop are in Museums like the Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe.
