Provenance: formerly in the ownership of the Count of Attems, Graz. Ignaz Maria Count of Attems-Heiligenkreuz (1652–1732), in whose service the painter, Franz Ignaz Flurer worked for many years, not only built the Palais Attems in Graz and many palaces in southern Styria and Krain, but he was also a keen and wealthy collector. The works amassed by him formed the core of the collection of the most important private art gallery in Styria. At the request of the Count, Flurer executed numerous paintings, including full cycles of paintings for the palace at Graz and for many of the country houses owned by the Atterns family.
