Still life with grapes, peaches, pineapple and flowers on two stone slabs and in a basket, signed lower left, ‘W Hend-Rik Pinxit’, oil on panel, 66 x 53 cm, framed

Certificate from the Director of the Teyler Museum in Haarlem dated 27 October 2000, saying that this is an authentic work by the artist. Wijbrand Hendriks was himself the Director of the Museum, which has a collection of his works. The artist dictionary, Thieme-Becker says of the artist, “His painting style is fine and cultivated; his colours are cool, fine, and silvery. His characterisation is almost always brilliant. He is perhaps the most pleasing Dutch artist of the period. He was a witty, pleasant character and had particularly friendly associations with an influential circle of wealthy and artistically inclined literati in Haarlem, almost all of whom he portrayed.”
