Provenance: Dr Johann Focke Collection (1848–1922), founder and director of the Focke Museum in Bremen, which was named after him; by inheritance to his descendants; Southwest German private collection.

We are grateful to Dr Ursula Härting, who has examined the painting in the original and confirmed it to be a work Frans Francken’s workshop. The ‘Marriage at Cana’ is a theme represented on several occasions by Frans Francken II. It gave him the opportunity to arrange figural groups and still lifes like precious objects.
