We are grateful to Prof Riccardo Lattuada for his suggested attribution on the basis of a photograph. This composition is known in at least two authentic versions (see S. Causa, Battistello Caracciolo, L’opera completa, Napoli, 2002, p. 195, A79, ill. 273). There is a photograph of the present painting in the Zeri Archive in Bologna, photo INVN 108160, inscribed, ‘... Battistello Caracciolo/ con lettera autentica di Roberto Longhi’ ‘Arch. Grassi’.
