(Gent 1592 - after 1621), St. John the Baptist, oil on canvas, 75 x 62 cm, unframed
Certificate: Leonard Slatkes, 21 December 1997 (photocopy):"Based on the photographs this work seems to be by the Gent painter Jan Janssens. Janssens’s style is very close to that of Dirck van Baburen and works by the two artists are sometimes confused. Janssens seems to have been in close contact with Baburen and Utrecht painting; like your St. John the Baptist, Janssens’s style and brushwork are somewhat more schematic than Baburen’s, while retaining aspects of Baburen’s painterly technique.
