Single sheet from a missal, inscribed on both sides, on parchment, 62 x 50 cm, glazed, beginning of psalm 93, with elaborate ornamental decoration (fleuronnée). According to Dr. Martin Roland, the split initial, richly decorated in red and blue, and the tendency towards trelliswork in the accompanying ornament in the margins suggest that the missal was made in Spain. Certificate: Dr. Martin Roland, Department of Art History, University of Vienna, 12 November 2009. The present parchment sheet once figured in a missal as folio 96. Its original verso contains the beginning of psalm 92 (93) and is embellished with a four-line fleuronné initial. The text, the painted decoration in red and blue, and the ornamental parts executed in pen and red ink are entirely complete, whereas the part in blue ink is unfinished. Provenance: nobility.
