Lot No. 47 +

An interior design for the study of Ida Bienert in Dresden, by Piet Mondrian,

executed by Felix Del Marle 1926, pen and ink, black and white bodycolour, on paper, monogrammed P. M., 150 x 20 cm. (DR)
Axonometric view of the floor, bed, and table. In 1926 Mondrain was commissioned to design the study in the house of Ida Bienert in Dresden. Mondrian executed three designs and was paid 150 German marks, which was obviously not enough for him to also supervise the realisation. The same year Mondrian met Felix Del Marle, a young painter and theoretician. They influenced each other. A larger version of this drawing, executed in watercolour, is in the Kupferstichkabinett of the Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden, illustrated in: R. Walsh, Piet Mondrian, Catalogue Raisonne, vol. 2, No. B 167.
Provenance: Felix Del Marle, Paris; private collection.
