This chair is named after the Pixel Hotel, an architectural project for Linz 09 "“ European Capital of Culture 2009, for which Thomas Feichtner designed a temporary hotel room in the facilities of a contemporary art gallery. The Pixel Chair, a folded object, was part of the installation and was first presented in January 2009. Similar to the treatment of metal sheet for car bodies, it is exclusively the manner of folding that reinforces the entire construction. The resting parts result from the form of the legs and vice versa. In terms of form and statics, the Pixel Chair is a consistent and logical construction. Each part of the metal sheet structure performs a load-bearing function. The chair was hand-folded from stainless steel sheet, welded, and polished. The sophisticated piece was produced by Schinko, a design-oriented company, as a unique item. Since its foundation, the Austrian manufacturer of switchboards and metal cases has relied on the collaboration with well-known design offices and has been awarded numerous design prizes. This was for the first time that the company, which normally manufactures its products in series, concentrated its expertise on the production of a single object.
