An architectural capriccio with figures,
oil on canvas, 76 x 97 cm, framed
In 1665 Harms travelled to Rome. He entered Salvator Rosa’s studio, and became familiar with the stage decorations of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Galli da Bibiena. In later years Harms went back to Germany, where he worked as a court painter for the Elector of Saxony in Dresden and for Duke Anton Ulrich of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.
