Lot No. 231 +

When Fuji Used to Be a Mountain & Wind & Fast Forward, Split Reality, sculptures, designed and manufactured by Peter Weibel*, 1990,

from the series of the ‘Panicky Objects’ (In the Waiting Loop), various materials, multiple signatures, dimensions of each TV set: height approx. 51 cm, width approx. 72 cm, depth approx. 50 cm. (MHA)

‘The pipes (gas, water) and cables (telephone, electricity) as material energy suppliers of the nineteenth century were succeeded in the twentieth century by immaterial networks (TV, radio, computer) as an intellectual supply chain (images, sounds, messages). This led to a new understanding of the reality of the media, with events taking place in the natural world drifting apart like continents. The water tap is on this side, the bisected flowerpot, which cannot be watered by the tap, on the other. Reality is not part of the programme. The behaviour of the images does not comply with the facts’ (Peter Weibel – Hypothetische Produkte – Vom Elend der Privilegien, Prodomo, Vienna, 29 April – 21 May 1994, exhibition catalogue, 16, Vienna 1994, pp. 14/15).
