Pietro Montanini
(Perugia 1626–1689),
A mountainous landscape with a bridge and figures,
oil on canvas, 48 x 80.3 cm, framed
Montanini, who had worked in the studios of Pietro da Cortona and Salvator Rosa, left an oeuvre strongly dependent on Rosa’s landscapes. Nevertheless his compositions are independent and individual creations differing from those by Rosa in their greater dynamism, monochrome colour schemes, and accumulated cloud formations.
