The subject – golden ears of corn coming out of a chest in a symbolic landscape setting – is connected with autarchic exaltation of grain as treasure, and as subject of Mussolini´s “Battaglia del Grano” (Battle for Grain), which was also a theme of the Premio Cremona competition, where Gerardo Dottori entered a great piece.
