The Imperial-Royal civil servant Joseph Kenner (1794 Vienna-1868 Bad Ischl), chief administrative officer of Freistadt and of Bad Ischl became famous for his activities as an amateur painter, draftsman and occasional poet. He co-founded the Francisco-Carolinum Museum in Linz, became the museum’s secretary in the year of its foundation and was collaborator of the museum’s „Berichte“ (reports). Kenner made mutual friendship with friends around Franz Schubert in Linz and with Moritz von Schwind. In their circle he wrote many poems. Schwind who esteemed Kenner’s achievements in the arts designed a cycle of illustrations for Kenner’s ballad „The Liedler“; some poems by Kenner were set in music by Franz Schubert.
