Provenance: Private European collection After studying in London, in 1964 the British artist Allen Jones went to New York for two years where he was influenced by American Pop Art. Many of his works are provocative and have a strongly erotic basis. Jones often alludes to phallic symbols such as the neck tie as a symbol of masculine potency. In 1969 the British pop artist became known for his provocative, life-sized female figures, which he crafted from steel and fibreglass and then positioned to look like pieces of furniture.
