Provenance: formerly in the National Gallery, Prague (as Nicolaes Berchem, published as a colour postcard); German private collection. This painting by Jan van der Bent is based on a painting by Berchem, which was previously in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg (and is today in the Kunstmuseum, Basel). We are grateful to Marijke de Kinkelder of the RKD, The Hague for the attribution to Jan van der Bent (written communication to the consignor of June 2007).
