Certificate: Prof. Otto H. Förster, Cologne (formerly Director of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne). Bronchorst, who was one of the Utrecht Mannerists, painted history and genre scenes in the style of Gerard van Honthorst and Jan van Bylert. He also placed emphasis on the bodies of his figures by means of particular lighting effects. This picture is probably a fragment of a larger painting.
