Francesco Montelatici, called Cecco Bravo
![]({f:uri.resource(path: 'Images/no_image_{f:cObject(typoscriptObjectPath: 'config.language')}.webp', extensionName: 'dorotheum')})
(Florence 1601–1661 Innsbruck) Two scenes from the Old Testament, 1. Adam and Eve in Paradise, 2. Adam’s Family, oil on canvas, each 126 x 99.5 cm, framed
Provenance: Villa Tassinari, Val di Pesa; European private collection. Literature: It is obvious that Cecco Bravo borrowed motifs from antique models, which also applies for the present composition, in which the figure of Eve in the painting Adam and Eve in Paradise strongly resembles the Medici Venus. However, he was also inspired by such artists as Pontormo: in the composition Adam’s Family, the postures of Eve and one child correspond to those of two figures in Pontormo’s fresco in the choir of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence. (see also the italian text) The present paintings are characteristic examples of the art of Cecco Bravo, who numbered among the most idiosyncratic and interesting Italian artists of his time.
