The Yumuri valley near Matanzas in Cuba, signed H. Sattler, pencil on paper, 23,2 x 35 cm, a text of the artist on the reverse: "Das Thal von Yumori bei Matanzas auf Cuba. Im Hintergrunde der 3000 F. hohe pan de Matanzas / Rechts und links in den Zuckerrohrfeldern die Dampfmühlen Guadalupe, Diego und Mulato. Die Königspalme ist / hier vorherrschend." (Yumori valley near Matanzas on Cuba. The 3000ft high Matanzas peak in the background, in the sugar cane fields, at left and right the steam mills Guadalupe, Diego and Mulato, the palm trees predominant) mounted, framed, (Sch)
After journeys to the Near and Far East between 1842 and 1846 Sattler visited North and Central America in 1850, which can be confirmed by the present sheet. The drawing recalls sheets which Frans Jansz. Post brought back home from Brazil in the 17th century. The sheet by Sattler is of great rarity. The view of the drawing shows the valley of Yumori river on Cuba island with the hill "Pan de Matanzas" in the background and the steam mills Guadeloupe, San Diego and Mulato in the sugar cane fields.
