“Portrait Fritz Kreisler”, drypoint etching on lightweight wove paper, signed ‘Emil Orlik’ and inscribed with ‘Probedruck’ [proof], titled in the plate, with handwritten inscription by Fritz Kreisler: “To Miss Mary Griffiths in kind remembrance of Fritz Kreisler, May 16th 1930”, plate size 24 x 18 cm, sheet size 37.6 x 26.6 cm, sight area slightly browned, more noticeable on the reverse, margin glued all around, framed, (RAC)

Provenance:
formerly Collection of Prof. P. H. Plesch, with a label on the reverse of the frame. Peter H. Plesch (1918 - 2013) was the son of physician Janos Plesch (1878-1957), whose friends included artists, musicians and scientists, such as Orlik, Kreisler and Einstein. Miss Mary Griffiths is probably the Scottish governess of Janos Plesch’s children (cf. Janos, The Story of a Doctor, by John (Janos) Plesch, London 1947, p. 399)
