A ceiling light / light sculpture from the ‘Lampenfieber’ series, designed and manufactured by Gisela Stiegler* in 2011, - Design

block-like white expanded polystyrene construction, fitted for one light, height approx. 120 cm, width approx. 80 cm, depth approx. 40 cm. (MHA)

This ceiling light is an expansive pendant light sculpture whose monolithic outer structure seems to almost dissolve in weightlessness because of the lightness of the material of expanded polystyrene, which is lit from within. For the independent artist, the aspect of light derives first and foremost from aesthetic considerations and borders design only in the very tensional moment of a resulting secondary function. Gisela Stiegler was born in Austria in 1970. She studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and participated in a number of exhibitions in Vienna, Milan, London, Paris, Mexico City, Berlin and Rome, where she presented different works. Gisela Stiegler lives and works in Vienna.
