‘Developing his own style, Abraham Janssens combined Antwerp Mannerism with certain aspects of Caravaggism, which to some degree had already existed in Flemish painting before Caravaggio […]. After about 1620 he became more dependent on the example set by P. P. Rubens’ (in: J. de Maere, M. Wabbes, Illustrated Dictionary of 17th Century Flemish Painters, Brussels 1994, pp. 229/30).
