Shown at the Paris Salon of 1891 and then in Chicago in 1893, the Enchanted Hour is considered one of his best works. Henry-Eugène Delacroix trained under Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and Tony Robert-Fleury (1837-1911) at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited regularly in Paris from 1873 and was awarded many honours at the annual Salons. From 1888 he was a member of the Société des artistes français, the association of French artists in charge of the organisation of the Salon.
